Agdahon Elementary School, Capiz.

The school gets ready to implement the Advancement for Rural Kids Feeding Program in the coming school year. One of the programs requirements is that the school, along with volunteers from the PTA, maintain a garden.  With this garden, the daily lunch (fresh, nutritious, no preservatives) of the students comes to about, on average, 2 Php per day per child*, roughly less than a nickel in US dollars.

*This depends on the school population, of course. For this particular school, it is less than 2 Php. In other schools with less students, the cost went a little over at almost 3 Php ($0.07)

The Surprise Package Company

I’m having an inspired Monday. All because of a statement which was meant to a link to an article about a secret Santa.  I liked this story better.

When my sister and I were little girls, we created The Surprise Package Company. We would make handmade gifts, wrap them and write an anonymous note that said from The Surprise Package Company. We would leave the gifts on doorsteps, ring the bell and run. I would like to rekindle that excitement and think of an act of kindness, however small, to share.

From Teachers Uncovering Greatness

I don’t know the name of the person whose story this is, but a quick search led me to a different surprise package story (where the photo above came from).

Reminds me of Longfellow’s The Rainy Day
The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;It rains, and the wind is never weary;The vine still clings to the moldering wall,But at every gust the dead leaves fall,And the day is dark and dreary.My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;It rains, and the wind is never weary;My thoughts still cling to the moldering Past,But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blastAnd the days are dark and dreary.Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;Thy fate is the common fate of all,Into each life some rain must fall,Some days must be dark and dreary.

Reminds me of Longfellow’s The Rainy Day

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the moldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the moldering Past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

Since we took to the sky, we have wanted to fly faster and farther. And to do so, we’ve had to believe in impossible things and we’ve had to refuse to fear failure.” (Regina Dugan)
